Lesson #2

Today's lesson started with POEMS.  Students were given two words...the titles of the poems.  In this case...Blue and Brown.   They were asked to think of words that would help convey the visual or the feeling of the words they were given.  No need to rhyme.

Next...we moved onto the 5 W's & How.  Like the 5 Senses...the 5 W's & How can be used to help build more interesting sentences.

A man worked.

Jack (who) mowed the lawn (what) joyfully (how) on Saturday morning (when) at his mother's house (where) because he loved her (why.)

* Every sentence we write does not need to include ALL of the 5 W's & How...just like every sentence we write does not need to include ALL of the 5 Senses.

We talked about SIMILES

Then...we parted ways.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow."  William Shakespeare

Homework:

Write a poem.  The title of the poem is BEIGE.

1.  The girl yelled.

2.  The bird flew.

Improve the above sentences by using the 5 W's & How.

3.  The laughter was as_________________  as _____________________.

4.  The  teenager's room was like ______________________.

Complete the above sentences using similes.
